I joined the Air Force as a laboratory technician in 1982, completing 4 years and leaving the Air Force as a Sergeant. I rejoined the military in the Navy in 1990, completed my Bachelor’s degree at Wichita State University, obtaining a commission the same day as graduating from nursing school. I served at Charleston, SC, Bethesda Naval Medical Station, Rota, Spain Naval Hospital, Cherry Point, NC, Camp LeJeune, NC, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Whiting Field, Florida. I retired in 2008 with 21.75 years.

I returned to Kansas after retirement because it was home and I love Kansas, especially Wichita.

Since I retired from the military in 2008, I have dedicated my time to completing my Master’s in Nursing with an emphasis as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with a concentration in Psychiatric Mental Health. For the last 4 years, I have instructed nursing students in the classroom and clinical setting.

I believe in the goodness of people. What I have seen in medicine I think may also be happening in politics. There is so much information being thrown at people, it can be confusing. I have been passionate about education all my life and would like to take my brand of educating to Topeka. When people know better, they often do better.
